15 dead in Afghanistan hotel bombing

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — At least 15 people were killed and 13 others wounded Thursday when a suicide bomber attacked a market in central Afghanistan, the provincial police chief said.

There were conflicting reports about the death toll. Gen. Abdul Hamid, a brigade commander of the Afghan National Army in the province, told CNN that 20 people had been killed and 13 wounded.

It happened at the Haji Mohammad Nasim Market in Uruzgan province, Police Chief Joma Hemat told CNN. The number of victims was likely to increase as authorities find bodies in the rubble, he said.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack, saying the bomber struck on a market day while people were shopping.

Journalist Mati Matiullah contributed to this report.
